    Very good

Staff were very friendly, all the rooms were clean, comfortable, and recently referbished. Allocated double room when twin was requested, did the same when two friends booked in the following evening, although the error was soon rectified.

Great service and staff. good choice and reasonably priced meals, excellent breakfast

    Fabulous

This Hotel has easy access, plenty of parking, an all day restaurant and is right in the centre of a pleasant little town with a good range of shops. It is therefore from every aspect, very user friendly. Add to that the helpful and charming staff and you have most of the ingredients for a stress free stay.

We arrived on a Sunday to pick up a new car in nearby Basingstoke on the Monday. We didn't know Alton and simply chose the Hotel with the lowest Sunday night rate. Therefore, we didn't expect extreme luxury and nor did we get it, with a room that looked onto a wall. We had however asked for a quiet room so can't complain but had the weather been warmer, it would have been too stuffy. We felt the bathroom was only just acceptable. Grouting around bath and washbasin was tired and gave a slightly grubby feeling, there was no towel rail and the shower ran hot and cold.

    Fabulous

Very confortable room, good shower and nice to see a comfy chair to watch tv from

Service very slow at breakfast so I missed eating a full english as I had to go to a meeting for 8am. I did not get my wake up call either. Other than that I would definatly stay again.

    Fabulous

The Swan has easy access to Jane Austen's house by car; the hotel is historic, being over 400 years old; and the price of accommodation was reasonable compared with other hotels I have stayed at in the uk. I took the booklet that was offered that pairs the hotel with similar accommodation to use in the future.

The room was clean, nice and big. Big choice for the dinner.

    Fabulous

Extremely handy for the town and within easy walking distance of friends visited. Comfortable room and good breakfast. Good car parking.

Some TLC needed in some areas of hotel and room/en suite.

    Fabulous

The rooms were quite large and the bed and pillows were very comfortable. A full English Breakfast was included in the price and I was surprised that you could choose from the menu if you didnt want this, which was great, plus you could help yourself to cereal, fruit, pastries and muffins etc if you wanted.

Although the rooms were big, the heating didnt appear to be on, so the room felt quite cold, it probably didnt help that the windows are quite old and probably need replacing.

    Good

The old worlde ambience of the hotel was a lovely characteristic. The food was very good value.

There was no heating at all in the bathroom.

    Good

Ideal location for my purpose. Very competetive price compared to other hotels claiming to be the 'Premier Venue' in area. Reasonable choice of dinner menu and pretty fair catering. Also included fresh fruit salad for breakfast, a good selection.

Decor could do with a bit of attention. Stairway carpets were worn and loose (perhaps a H&S Issue?) which I did mention to the receptionist - no action by maintenance during my stay though!

Great value for money - we had a lovely room.

Mattress was bit too hard for my liking.

    Very good

It was a really nice hotel, loved the restaunrant and breakfast... We stayed in the penn room, and that was beautiful, but there was a problem that made the whole experience upsetting: the noise. We have no idea what it was, but right below our room there was moving and banging and a lot of noise in the late night, aroung 12am to 2am, and it was very disturbing. And it was going on both nights we stayed there... Both my husband and I had little sleep while visiting the hotel, so it left a negative experience in my mouth. The hotel itself is lovely, but my husband said we are never going back due to the noise...

    Superb

Very friendly staff. Rooms were good and comfortable.Good breakfast. Located in town centre

Security was poor. Fire escapes were left open (not just unlocked, but wide open with access for anyone).3rd floor room walls are very thin and I was disturbed by people in the corridor. Because it is on a road with traffic passing 24 hours noises from the street are loud if you are in a front bedroom.

    Fabulous

Brilliant place! Very comfortable, a place with history and charm, but with a great atmosphere and an excellent pub/restaurant.The breakfast was the best we've had anywhere, the usual fullEneglish, but also some not-usually-offered items like Eggs Benedict and 3 Egg Omelette. The qulaity was superb and it was served to your table, not the usual buffet where everything is overcooked.

Nothing much. Access wasn't that convenient because you park at the rear and have to negotiate several doors through the pub to get to reception. But it's no big deal.

    Exceptional

I was having a few days break.I Chose the Swan Hotel after going on the internet.I Wanted to visit the Mid Hant's Railway and Alton was convenient because I was travelling by train.I Found the hotel to be very good in every way, from when I booked in to checking out.I Was greeted in a very friendly manner,my room25 was apparently undergoing maintainance so I was upgraded to another room temporarily. My room was comfortable and very good, facilities were very good. The food and drink were good and and resonably priced The staff were efficient and very friendly.I Found everything about the hotel to be very good and I was very pleased that I stayed where I did.

I found nothing to complain about.
